Nimrod was “The mighty hunter” of the Bible. A very apt name for an aircraft that was essentially a submarine hunter for much of its RAF service. Based on the vintage Comet jet airliner, with numerous protrusions added externally, and modern equipment fitted internally, the aircraft always seemed modern. The MR1 joined the RAF in 1969. The later MR2 upgrade was made from 1975 onward. Massive amounts of money were spent on an Airborne Early Warning prototype, but it was cancelled. The final variant was the signals intelligence R1. Nimrod MR2 was retired in 2010, and the R1 in 2011. The FSX aircraft shown are freeware.
